Fish & Chips - Messiah Style

The recent recession seems like it is not getting better. I know a coupla guys who went through a similarly discouraging scenario. It might have happened a while back ago, but their feelings of discouragement and despair remains the same as what many are feeling today. They had been out fishing all night to no avail. The fish were not biting. They decided to turn back and enjoy whatever was left of the night. Every sign pointed to NO FISH - empty nets, tired muscles from letting nets in and dragging them back to no avail. When they got to shore, these blokes were washing their fishing nets when a kindly looking stranger got into one of their boats and asked if they wouldn't mind taking him and some of the people following him a little out to sea. Since their boats were doing nothing fruitful that night, the one who owned the boat he had chosen to step in agreed to volunteer his time. After talking a little while about things that really moved the hearts of all on board, including t

I can't stop feeding myself!!!! ^.^"

Yes, yes, you read me right. I eat-like-there-is-no-tomorrow on the Word of Christ =) I eat like I do when I stumble on a good sashimi buffet - whack ah! Mai tu liao! =D The insatiable appetite began some 5 years ago when I stumbled out of Roman Catholicism to discover the Truth found in the Bible & I've not stopped eating my healthy diet of Psalms, Proverbs, Gospel, Epistles and a pinch of OT since then. My favourite munch? Grace - the amazing grace of Christ Jesus. What I find will cause Food Poisoning? Law, Condemnation and Guilt. It is good to feed on the Word, but it is also important to feed on the right substance. Mixing Law with Grace is not advisable... it will cause a spiritual tummyache. It's like consuming Hot Soup with Ice Cool Refreshing Water. =p The mix will cause your tummy to hurt and be confused. Some victims of Spiritual Poisoning caused by over-consumption of a "Law & Grace Mix Salad" go around spewing hurt around because they were hurt

Pots of Soup and thoughts of love

Heb 12:14, 15 - "Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no "root of bitterness" springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled..." For years I struggled with getting along with my mother and even today, I still struggle. The difference is in the past I struggled to be at strife with her because I had expectations of her that I wanted her to meet just as she had expectations of me that she wanted me to meet. Today, I simply struggle to be at peace with her, knowing she is not perfect and neither am I. We still argue sometimes and raise our voices at each other sometimes, but it has become easier over time. I try my best but it is not my trying Jesus wants... it is my letting go and letting Him take control of our relationship and the conversations we have. It is my hope that as we find a peaceful and friendlier way to communicate that we

His tender mercies

I was reading my very dearest Aircon's blog (I am her heater.... long story hahaha. She is also the one who first told me about New Creation Church when I was in Poly) when I felt I should share what she shared: I was surfing on the word 'mercies' looking for this song when I came across a sermon by Dr. Jack Hyles called For His Mercy Endureth Forever. Basically he expounds on the word mercy in the Bible and its context. My favourite portion was about how the word ' endure ' comes from a greek word which means 'to conquer '! So His Mercies Conquers Forever!! Praise God! If you think of it Jesus's mercy conquered the grave, His love and tender mercies ensured our victory the day He opened His arms to die for us on the cross. So let's live each day in remembrance of that tender mercy and that unfailing, unconditional love in praise of His amazing grace =) Dr. Jack Hyles said on his website: Twenty-six times in Psalm 136 we find these beautiful words,

Just to share from Stanley's Blog...

Tuesday, November 25, 2008 Ever Heard Of John 3:17? I stumbled on this website cool4christ and it has for sale a really cool T-shirt with a design that spoofs the TV series Heroes. I liked it so much that I have pasted a picture of it at the top right hand corner of my blog (click on the picture and you will reach the cool4christ website). What attracted me initially was the spoof of the Heroes logo but as I examined the design closely, I was drawn to the scripture verse at the bottom: For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. - John 3:17 In the very first post of my blog, I mentioned that one of the first verses we memorized in Sunday School was John 3:16. I still remember John 3:16 till this day but I don't recall ever being asked to memorize John 3:17 . As I saw the John 3:17 verse on the T-shirt, my heart was deeply stirred because a lot of Christians (including me as recently as 5 years ago) are going about their Chris

Rainbow Connection =)

Image
That's the rainbow that was over Suntec City Tower 4 that my friend took a pic of for me. Can you see the second rainbow above it? =) Continuation of the rainbow entry I put on yesterday... The Double Rainbow on New Year's Day was of great encouragement to Ian and I. He had proposed only a month earlier and we were trusting in God for provision for the wedding & for everyday of our lives. Also, I was starting a new job. That year we really did receive double blessings - I earned more money that a Uni Grad despite my O'level qualifications (I did go to college but my A'levels are 2 credits which are considered ok in UK but no go in SG where you need 3 credits. I got distinction for Lit and passed my Mandarin. I didn't finish my Poly because of Kae and red tape issues in school.) So really, it was God's blessings through and through. Ian was away a lot as well as he had a lot of overseas shoot and he was very blessed too. Halfway through the year, my bosses a

SO SWEET... =D

Opened up Straits Times to see this article and felt it was really touching =) I know Ian and I will have an even more meaningful and lasting marriage as besides keeping no secrets from each other, we also have a marriage built upon Jesus Christ. 72 years together The Rattys are believed to be among the longest married couples here By Judith Tan Mr Ratty, 90, and Madam Devi, 88, say they do not keep secrets from each other, and this has helped to keep their marriage and love alive after so many years. -- ST PHOTO: DESMOND WEE THEY we

On Rainbows

Yesterday Pastor was sharing about His Israel trip experiences with us. Whilst they were in Israel taking church members on a guided tour in 2006, they were at the Mount of Beatitudes when there, in the sky, was a perfect rainbow surrounding the Sun. This is like what we see in Revelations 10:1 - "Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven, wrapped in a cloud, with a rainbow over his head , and his face was like the sun , and his legs like pillars of fire..." (BTW, Pastor mentioned that most of us have the misconception that it is just another angel, but it is the Angel of the LORD aka Jesus. Read several resource books to get confirmation and ya it is supposed to be Jesus not just one of the other angels under Him.) Pastor's just come back from yet another Israel trip and his daughter, Jessica, who is two years older than Kae, went with him for the first time. And he told the people from our church who were on the tour with him, their experience 2 years ag

A Lengthy Aud Lang Syne

As the year comes to a close, I am taking some time to look back at it with eyes wide open, rather than eyes wide shut. Many of us are so driven by wanting more, we forget to thank God for what we've been given in our lives as well as the tragedies that might have been averted by Him. So I want to put my work aside for a minute to thank Him for the little things. I thank God that my husband doesn't have wandering eyes and is what most men term a "market spoiler". He is a talented director; a caring, considerate, loyal, faithful, romantic, loving hubby and a real awesome dad to our 6 year old. I thank God for a real memorable and well-provisioned wedding in February and I trust our marriage into His care. I thank God that my husband loves my son very very much even though he is not his flesh and blood. I thank God for my son and his precocious mind. I thank God that he is healthy, happy and that we have a close bond with each other. I thank God for his smile, his laug

His eye in on the sparrow & I know He watches me =)

Why should I feel discouraged Why should the shadows come Why should my heart fell lonely And long for heaven and home When Jesus is my portion A constant friend is He His eye is on the sparrow And I know He watches over me His eye is on the sparrow And I know He watches me I sing because I'm happy I sing because I'm free His eye is on the sparrow And I know He watches He watches me His eye is on the sparrow And I know he watches I know he watches I know he watches me I sing because I'm happy I sing because I'm free His eye is on the sparrow And I know he watches me He watches me His eye is on the sparrow And I know he watches me He watches me He watches me, I never thought... He watches me

What does Christmas really commemorate if not the birth of Christ?

From the 2 earlier articles, we have come to know that Christ was not born on 25th of December but, very likely, on the 1st day of Elul (6th Jewish month). So where did the 25th of Dec date for Christmas come from? A winter festival was traditionally the most popular festival of the year in many cultures. Reasons included less agricultural work needing to be done during the winter, as well as people expecting longer days and shorter nights after the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.[10] Modern Christmas with pagan customs include: gift-giving and merrymaking from Roman Saturnalia; greenery, lights, and charity from the Roman New Year; and Yule logs and various foods from Teutonic feasts.[11] Such traditions are considered to have been syncretised from winter festivals including the following: Natalis Solis Invicti Mosaic of Jesus Christ depicted as Sol (the Sun god) in Mausoleum M in the pre-fourth-century necropolis under St Peter's Basilica in Rome. It is named Christo

Another article on when Christ was most likely ushered into this World =)

The world was transfixed by the year 2000--worried about the'Y2K' bug in computers, millennial madness in cult groups, political union in Europe, and a proposal to make Mary "co-redemptrix" in the Catholic Church. While Rome flirted with blasphemy, few realized that the true 2000th lunar anniversary of the birth of Jesus was August 22, 1998, or on September 11, 1998 by the solar calendar dating we now use. Many may live to see the consequences of the anniversary, if it foreshadowed a coming fake Christ. Or at the least, there were dozens of lunatics eager to take advantage of the year 2000 hysteria to get the attention of the gullible. Yet the 2000th anniversary of the Nativity actually came 475 days before year 2000 began. The correct anniversary date was about sundown, Jerusalem time, the end of the Sabbath, Saturday August 22, 1998. How can we know the exact day--and nearly the hour--of the birth of Jesus? Simple arithmatic. A child coul

Biblical Evidence Shows Jesus Christ Wasn't Born on Dec. 25

History convincingly shows that Dec. 25 was popularized as the date for Christmas, not because Christ was born on that day but because it was already popular in pagan religious celebrations as the birthday of the sun. But is it possible that Dec. 25 could be the day of Christ's birth? "Lacking any scriptural pointers to Jesus's birthday, early Christian teachers suggested dates all over the calendar. Clement. . . picked November 18. Hippolytus . . . figured Christ must have been born on a Wednesday . . . An anonymous document[,] believed to have been written in North Africa around A.D. 243, placed Jesus's birth on March 28" (Jeffery Sheler, U.S. News & World Report, "In Search of Christmas," Dec. 23, 1996, p. 58). A careful analysis of Scripture, however, clearly indicates that Dec. 25 is an unlikely date for Christ's birth. Here are two primary reasons: First, we know that shepherds were in the fields watching their flocks at the time of Jesus&#

Standing in the Holy Place

"When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)” -Matthew 24:15 It is without a doubt that I say that I truly believe that we are living in the End Times. Bible prophesied events are taking place all around us in the areas of geography & natural disasters, politics, medical sciences, financial markets and economies, etc. There is an atmosphere of fear and anxiety thick in the air these days BUT we are not too fear because we are in perfect love - we can choose to abide in the safety of the Secret Place of the Most High by trusting God in the Spirit, instead of fearing what is happening around us in the flesh. Standing in the Holy Place, we can be more than conquerors because we are IN Christ Jesus - His victory over the Prince of the Air is our victory, the fact that He reigns at the right hand of the Father means that we reign too alongside Him because "As He is in T

Kae's graduated from Kindergarten... =)

Image
Kae graduated last night after 3 years in Living Sanctuary Kindergarten. We've seen him grow so much during the time he spent there. Watching the little-r ones on stage, I could not help but recall how tiny our boy was when he first embarked on his journey in the school under the watchful eyes and love of the principal and her team of teachers. We've attended each concert and each sports day watching Kae confidently showing off newfound skills. I must admit that I will miss these events, but I look forward to the ones he will have in Primary School. The graduation ceremony started with the principal's heartfelt address where she spoke about the school and the love for the children. I felt tears welling and spilling out when she spoke about how a child under their care was discovered to be ill with cancer. As a mum, it pained me to know that someone so tiny could suffer so much. She then sang a beautiful song that summed up the teacher's heart - that at the end of the

No coincidences in Christ...

I sent out a few encouragement messages to my someone dear to me the other day. She's working in Taiwan and I try to sms whenever I can. Not long after the messages were sent, she called me. "How do you know?" she asked. "How do I know what?" "You must know if not how could you have sent me those messages." Apparently 2 out of the 3 messages I sent happened to have particular meaning to her and reached her at a serendipitous time. We had a long chat after that and I found out that she was going through deep emotional hurt, physically in pain as well as very depressed. When the messages got to her, she was just about to empty out all her medication to consume and be done with life. (Do cover her with prayer along with me k?) I thank God that He moved me at the right time to message her and I pray that He will do so again and again - to use me to reach out to her and to my friends who hurt... so they know that He cares because there are no coincidences i

Kae's graduating today!

Another chapter is coming to a close in the life of my little one. Today Kaelen will officially graduate from Kindergarten as he prepares for the next chapter to begin - Primary School. Armed with tissue (lots of it), camera and a camcorder Dad, Mum, Ian and I will head over to Kae's kindergarten in a little while to witness Kae donning his first square hat and getting his cert on the stage. He will also be performing with his classmates a graduation performance as well as a K2 performance. Can't wait for it! =D Little one has been making sure we will be surprised by not telling us anything about the performance or its songs - only divulging the colour of his costume. Will put up the pictures tomorrow. For now, the very proud Papa Bear and Mummy Bear are just going to enjoy watching their baby bear grow up just that little bit more. =)
