Reflections on Michael Jackson Memorial
Basically the Pastor even termed him an idol, another pastor I think said he showed people how to love, gave people hope, bridged people of all cultures and united the world. It felt like it was a bit too much showmanship when they spoke.
I loved Brooke Shield's eulogy though. She showed how human, sweet he was. A man-child, not the Idol people place on a pedestal. I did raise my eye brows when she was talking about his favourite song, Smile, and said we need to look up where he is indeed perched on a crescent moon and we need to smile. What's this thing about crescent moon? Hmm...
I felt sad when there was a moment where they played Michael's voice and some questions he was asking- will you be there during my trials and tribulations, etc. And he said to who he was addressing it to, me thinks it was God, that they will never part from each other. I hope he is truly in Christ now.
I turned to Ian and said we can be rich, poor and all of us seem to consciously and subconsciously seek to fill that void only God can truly fill.
I agree we have lost a great performer and I hope he is finally happy. But I can't mourn him like I did when I read about how Christ suffered and died for me, for us. I can feel sympathy for him, for his loved ones, but I rejoice that he is hopefully somewhere better. He suffered a lot and I hope he's now at peace, at rest in the Father's arms.
Yeah after a while, it was getting a bit strange, even the closing prayer. It was swaying dangerously off. And yeah, the perching on the crescent moon thing was a bit too whimsical. But that's MJ I guess? :p
ReplyDeleteI loved MJ when I was younger and was influenced by his performing "energy" quite a bit. Somehow, I always felt his emotions were always real... the kind that "real, grown-up" people reject vehemently. I was also reflecting on the things that people have said about him. The rest of the world calls him a narcissist, naming all 3 kids after himself (I just found out his daughter's name is Paris Michael Katherine Jackson! I think he was just really really proud to have kids he calls his own quite iterally). Yet as they recounted his accomplishments at his memorial, he was indeed a really giving, and caring person.
How cruel and absolute rejection is. :( And I think it all toiled on him. Despite his heart, his flesh was reacting to all the ill-wills and was giving way to strangeness and the drug dependency. Also, it didn't help that he had friends like Deepak Chopra and Uri Geller. Grunt.
I loved that his brother said that now that he's in heaven, "they'll" finally leave him alone. I so agree. So good to see the Jackson clan together on stage as family - real people, and not superstars.
I dun mean any Muslim friends offence... but umm Andrea the crescent moon quite Muslim no??
ReplyDeleteHopefully Brooke meant Dreamworks studios animation logo and not the other? =)
And I so agree with you. He was a wonderful guy and he must have been a great Dad. His kids seem to really love him a lot esp Paris - I cannot tell you how I tear up everytime I recall her speech. I really tear up siah.
Listening to his song "Will You Be There" is so bittersweet. In a way, you can hear his true feelings and questions in that song. In it you can also hear him calling out to Daddy God and I love that he says he will never part from Daddy God. AMEN!
I still love MJ and his music and really he is a sweet soul. I truly hope to see him moonwalking in Heaven someday =D
