Durian chips! Discovered only at the last trip that Jakarta has it too and for cheaper! Regret that i didn't know from the first trip!

This is the problem...

Met a P3 boy I helped out with in the first term in school. He's been dropped from our pilot scheme since then. I asked him how he fared for the recent CA2 and he said he failed every subject. He explained that he was unable to read and to understand the questions in all his papers. My concern is how did he get to Primary 3 and whether he will fall through the cracks of our education system. Is there a safety net for students like him? At the end of the day, he has to want to try harder at his schoolwork, but what will motivate him to do so? Do keep him in prayer? His name is Samuel. :)

One more tear

Another Wednesday Class, another story. My student wasn't being attentive in class today. Despite going through the words with her, she was able to get it wrong straight after my correction. After Class was dismissed, I sat her down for a chat. The last time she told me her brother hits her a lot. This time it seems things are worse- he has been hitting her mum and grandfather too. I feel sorry that she's got to deal with this at home, but reminded her that this has nothing to do with her decision not to pay attention in Class, that this should spur her to try harder at her work so she won't have to fear her brother. Also told her that her mummy works hard as a nurse and it must be hard to face the issues at home, that she has to try her best so her mum has one less worry. Apparently she enjoys my Class so her mum allowed her to continue with it. Her mum rushes all over the place to make it happen. Please keep my student and her family in your prayers. Thanks!

Victory from our King

The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the lord is enthroned as King forever. The LORD gives strength to His people; the LORD blesses His people with SHALOM. - Psalm 29:10-11 Does it feel like the floodwaters are rising in your life? Do your trials feel heavy? Know that the Daddy God is King over the flood- not just this one, but every flood. What this means is that though you are in battle now, the outcome is a guaranteed victory- victory comes faster when we have maintain that good opinion of Him and continually praise Him through the storm. The flood was not caused by Him but He will scoop you out of the waters that threaten to drown you. Each new day there is more than enough grace to help us cope with the day's tribulations. So tap into that grace through right belief. You see He gives us strength to conquer and also gifts us with His Shalom- wholeness, peace, prosperity or victory, provision, contentment. To have them we need only do one thing- receive.

Feeling tempted to try to do something o

Feeling tempted to try to do something out of self effort? Well, Paul reminds us- "For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief." (Hebrews 4:10-11). Our whole life is a sabbath. Not saying don't do your work, but know where you're coming from as you do it. You're no longer labouring for victory. CHRIST already did that for you. So you learn to do your work from rest because of His victory- rest from anxiety, fear, self-effort. ;)

Thoughts post-Jakarta

I am back from my time in Jakarta. One thing about being away from home is that your eyes get opened a little wider each time. Jakarta has 2 sides to it. The haves and have-nots. This little write-up might seem schizo since the 2 worlds are well... worlds apart. =p > The World of the Haves I did not mean for this section to be a comparison of attitudes, but it sorta got shaped into one. As much as Jakarta was dusty, the toilet etiquette of the middle class and onward is not bad. I did not see footprints on toilet seats or urine sprinkled floors and seats. The loo at the mall I frequented was clean, dry and not smelly. People queued patiently, I did not experience queue-jumping. People were friendly and helpful mostly, with a smile on their face. When I needed to borrow someone's laptop to try to access the net for airplane ticketing issues they were not paranoid or skeptical. Back home when I try to borrow a mobile to dial ian (my hp is out of batt or not with me), people insis...

Up, up and away!

Watched UP with Kae. He really liked it! Caught it with Ian before my flight back. :) Moving, funny flick. Pixar never fails.

Jakarta Reflection- part 1

Being in Jakarta with Ian felt wonderful. If home is where the heart is, mine's split between TPY and Taman Pasadenia. ;) The first and third days were ian's off day. The second was a work day. We caught GI Joe on the first day and Up on the last evening I was there. :) It was good to snuggle up to the hubby. I find it frust that he has so much longer to go before he returns home. It's est the job will only end in mid-Sept. I hope for earlier. It's only early Aug so it feels like such a long way more. T.T I am not sure when I can see him again as it does cost, but I believe Jesus will provide. It means so much to spend time together. It means super much. This is the longest duration's he's been away afterall. It was good to pray together, to hold hands, to cook for him. I thank Daddy God for perfect provision, perfect protection, perfect love as we abide in Christ. :)

Discerning by Holy Spirit not Law

Last night, we had a passionate discussion because a sister in our faith felt the HS leading to opt for a divorce. Therein lay the issue of covenant breaking. Is it right to follow a leading if it contradicts what bible says. A sister pointed out how Jesus spoke against divorce in the gospel. Some of us spoke up on how Jesus's statement prior to His death on the Cross was founded on OT. He had not died to bring in New Covenant to our lives yet. Well this morning I was going to eat my breakfast when I opened one of my books by Nee to exactly this- "Before God, the merits of a case are determined not so much by whether the deeds are right or wrong, but whether the spirit is right or wrong... We should be in the realm of the inward spirit, not merely of our outward action."- Watchman Nee Watchman Nee also talks about how in Luke 9, the disciples saw how the Samaritans didn't want to receive Jesus and asked if they should command fire down from Heaven to consume them. IMH...
