Letting go at the root - a reflection & sharing

Recently, my ex signed the consent for Ian to adopt K and just yesterday, Ian and I went to the lawyer's office to sign documents and submit the docs to the Courts to process. I also agreed for my ex to spend some time with Kae at Vivocity (with my Dad accompanying them).  It was not easy making that decision at first because being human, we will tend to feel jealous or anxious about the meeting... and I spent the whole day missing Kae and wondering if he will love us any lesser... (SILLY I know =D) When Kae called after the meeting to gush about his new game that my ex got him, I did feel a bit green with envy. When we returned home to Kae, he continued gushing, but he did stop to give us hugs and to do a bear family hug. Later, as Iab washed up, I actually asked Kae if he could love us more (insecurities talking - paiseh man)... I did not say don't love my ex because I respect Kae's feelings - his relationship with the ex is his relationship with the ex.  BUT as I was bru

Prayer Request for Godma - diagnosed with stomach cancer

My Godma has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. Her family are believers and I believe that my godma's health has been overpaid for by the blood of Christ! AMEN! My godsis just got out of a very turbulent period of trial and testing and her mum got diagnosed just a few days after she finally was healed emotionally and spiritually. I know this sounds whacky to those who are not believers, but I feel that this is yet another attack on their really lovely family. They have been through so much and come out of each storm because the LORD has been faithful to them, so I know and believe and speak that our Jehovah Rapha will get them through this period of testing as He has gotten them out of harder times in the past. My Godma had cancer before but was totally cured before. This is a new cancer in a different part of the body... but we know that God can do the same thing He did in the earlier trial - He can bring her through this victoriously! God is good all the time and He will make a

Sighs... what's with these traditions that don't mean a thing?

I was just asking my tenant, a really nice Thai Chinese (Buddhist), if she could please wash her clothes (3 pants + 5 polo tee shirts) in one load because she usually splits them up into 2 loads!! Even if she washes all 8 items, it is just under half load. She said ok but the next day, she told me that it is a thai tradition to wash tops and pants seperate. Her mother taught her that way and her granny taught her mum that way, etc etc. Her mum said it is a tradition passed down from ancestors in China. So she was surprised that Singaporean Chinese don't practice the same thing. We are all from China afterall so why the difference? She then added that she doesn't feel comfy washing her clothes together. So because she is a nice lady, I decided aiya just let her do whatever she is comfy in this case lah. =p But inside a bit frust coz she pays my mum, we live there for free but the thing is only Ian & I pay for the utility bills. =pp For an IT expert who does the IT stuff for

14th Dec Sermon Notes - Lessons Learnt @ the Mount of Transfiguration

Testimony given at sermon: A lady who joined NCC recently wrote that her daughter had joined a church that asked them to all sign pledges that they will keep the 10 commandments. The girl started seeing unclean things after that. The lady was sleeping when she had a dream. In it, her clock showed 7am and the LORD showed her a cab. Then she heard His voice say - "This cab is going to Suntec City Level 6". The lady had no idea about our church or even about how Suntec City has a church located within it. She woke up. Her clock said 7am just ike the dream!! She knew straightaway that it was a supernatural dream. She got her daughter to go with her to our church. During the sermon, her daughter's leg began to tremble. That day onwards, she stopped seeing unclean things and they now attend our church. Simiarly, some years back a gangster heard God's instruction to come to Suntec City to find a church. He too had no idea that there was a church in Suntec City and had not h

Dust...

I was quite happy yesterday. I did quite a bit of housework, swept the house, vacuumed and mopped... I even used a microfibre sponge to clean each tile individually in the living room so that it sparkled white (the difference between the unpolished tiles and polished ones was HUGE). The floor felt so shoik to walk on last night and I was showing off to Ian when he came home hahaha. Then this morning, when I got up and walked on the floor, I felt it again. DUST! ARGH! Every housewife's enemy was back and snucked in to party whilst I was asleep! So when Kae went off with my Aunt for lunch, I did some sweeping with my Kao Magiclean wiper and yup there was a layer of fine dust and hair all over the cloth when I was done... =pp The same with our daily lives. We get over one obstacle and then another might appear just up ahaed. It could even be the same problem! But don't let that get you down! Jesus did not promise us no trials in this life, but that there are trials to be had in th

Seeing Adversity the Right way - Joel Osteen

Synopsis Anytime God is about to take you up to another new level, you're gonna face opposition - new obstacles to overcome, new battles to fight, maybe some people who might give you some trouble. Someone once said - new level, new devil! It is easy to get discouraged by the trials you are in and think "Why is this happening to me?" , "Why didn't I get that promotion?", "Why am I facing this illness?"... but if we can just realise that right pass those challenges is a new level of victory, a new level of success! Enjoy this sermon by Joel Osteen that I found online =D

An excellent message on Marrriage

Taking a stand for your family I feel everyone should listen to this message by Joel Osteen. It is very, very good. I have uploaded it here in 3 parts. Found it on youtube earlier on. =) May it bless you, your marriage and your family =D SHALOM!

Headlines News: God is NOT the source of your troubles.

I always find it interesting how people tend to like to heap the blame about what happened or is happening in their lives on Abba Daddy. Some even claim that God gifted them a curse to teach them a lesson. Nerida Walker makes a point that speaks my mind - If God is the One setting you free He cannot be the one that bound you in the first place. He cannot do both because He cannot work against Himself! Jesus states it clearly in Matthew 12:25 - "Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, 'every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand'" Therefore in order to see GOD at work in our lives, we need to first turn our eyes towards Christ! It is clear that the works He did were the works of the Father. John 14:7 - "If you really knew me; you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him." God created all things to be good and He also sent Jesus to do good on this

Praise God!

Firstly, K's biological dad has finally signed the OK for Ian to adopt K as his son. Praise GOD! I just got word of it from my lawyer after he spoke to his lawyer. Next, one of my insurance policies has matured. Received a significant amount for the cheque! First thing is to offer my first fruits to the LORD =) Second thing, plan with Ian what to do with the cash - prob keep some aside so we have cash on hand for if we want to go on a trip, to buy any neccessities. The rest we intend to sow into One North and put in FD too. God is good to us... we never have to fear in times uncertain because God is so kind, so wonderful to us. Praise be to Jesus always!

God affirms and re-affirms... =)

Remember how I told in an older blog post about how God painted a double rainbow in the sky to confirm with Charm and I about what we heard and witnessed at the "Rainbow" sermon that Pastor preached this November? Well, just a few days back, my godsister who was at the service with us was in Kota Kinabalu. She was telling her pastor, Dean Khoo, about the wonderful sermon and miracle that took place. They were just praising God for it when she noticed a rainbow in the sky just ahead of them. They were drivinng in the pastor's car. She pointed it out to him and he told her to look carefully - there were TWO rainbows in the sky!!!!!!!!!! She was amazed and her boyfriend who was also in the car remarked - "Wah! How come got so many rainbows wan ah?" She just sent me the photo of it (see above) but she was unable to capture both rainbows with her phone camera. At least we get to see one of them =D Praise God for His reminders that He cares, that He loves us and that

Charles Nieman short clips (very short clips)

AMEN! Nothing can steal what blessings God has for my family and I! Yay! Charles Nieman's a good preacher and I can't wait for him to come back to NCC to be a guest pastor again. =D This one reminds me of the song "When God Ran" - Praise God that He runs to us, not away from us... God is good all the time. Amen! I liked this one a lot - the key word in the word "forgive" is the word "give" & how sometimes people think they are talking to each other but are actually talking at each other. How true. May God bless the communication between family members in my family & to reign in our relationships with each other. Amen!

On well-meaning advice...

Today, my aunt (whom I treasure a lot) passed me a letter. In it, she gave some parenting tips and addressed some of her concerns. She ended the letter with some well-meaning advice- "when you are writing, you must set aside your 'belief' because that will affect your writing." Honestly, as a scriptwriter I find it hard to set aside my 'belief' when I accept jobs and when I do my job because to me, the relationship I have with Jesus is something I really treasure. He is my first love and Yahweh Abba is my treasured perfect Heavenly Daddy. I find it hard to say, "Ok lah let me compromise and do this job for the money"- because I know that even if I don't take on that job that doesn't sit well with me, it is not the end of the road... Daddy will just present me with another opportunity and other blessings. Since I am able to choose my job as a freelance writer, I make it my imperiative to select jobs that I am able to do without feeling uneasy

Renewing your mentality! (7/12/08 sermon notes) - Pastor Prince

Ephesians 4:21-25 21 I'm sure you heard of him. I'm sure you were taught by him. What you learned was the truth about Jesus. 22 You were taught not to live the way you used to. You must get rid of your old way of life. That's because it is polluted by longing for things that lead you down the wrong path. 23 You were taught to be made new in your thinking. 24 You were taught to start living a new life. It is created to be truly good and holy, just as God is. 25 So each of you must get rid of your lying. Speak the truth to your neighbor. We are all parts of one body. - Thus, we need to put forth former conduct of old man because NOW we are new creations in Christ, new men. How do we do this? By being renewed in the Spirit of your mind . True Holiness is something within. When we are born again, we are righteous and holy. We need to start believing we are new men not old men. Religion tells you to become (ie Performance) but this is NOT the gospel message. When you ar

Faith doesn't buy you blessings, it helps you receive it!

Faith is not the price that buys the blessings of God, but it is the hand that receives them. Ephesians 2:8 tells us that it is "by grace, through faith" that the blessings of our LORD and Saviour come to His children." - Joyce Meyer I found this very interesting. Basically Joyce Meyer is reminding us that it is not our believing and speaking (ie. faith) that buys the blessing because Christ overpaid for these blessings on the Cross (aka Grace came about from His ultimate sacrifice)... But we do need to believe and speak to receive the blessings! It is not that God has no blessings for us my friend, but it is as James 4:2 states- "we have not because we ask not". We can rebuke the devil for all it is worth, but unless we start believing and speaking God's promises and truth over the situation and CLAIM it all through the victory of the Cross, we will not have the blessings. Don't be mistaken. God's not a miser. The blessings are falling all around

Thoughts on the Spirit of Skandalon/ Offense

When we allow ourselves to get offended, we are actually walking into a trap. According to the Lexicon, the Greek definition of the English word "offended" is Skandalon - to entrap, i.e. Trip up (figuratively, stumble (transitively) or entice to sin. I have seen some of my very dear ones falling into this trap of Skandalon recently and I remember how I struggled with it too. The devil is a tricky chap. One of my dear ones is struggling against a great yoke of skandalon that has grown larger over the years - backstabbing by friends and colleagues, betrayal by a boyfriend. It has caused her to struggle with depression, eating problems, self-image issues... it has caused her to have problems focusing on her career and stumbled her relationships with other people. Another dear one struggles with the spirit of skandalon because there is one particular girl who seems to be flirting with her other half. Every time she sees that girl, the spirit of offense really pushes her buttons.

More Christmas songs =D

This is the WHOLE Christmas album by our Church Music Ministry. I found it on IMEEM. =) May it touch your hearts with the true meaning of CHRISTmas... not the shopping and lights and decoration... but a reminder of the birth of the Messiah in a small manger - Love came down on Christmas. Loves Come Down

I love this song...

We are The Reason - NCC Music Ministry When we sang it at the last Pastoral Care Ministry meeting in November, I felt my tears coming out. This song always touches my heart at its very core. This is from our Church's "Love's Come Down" album =D I love how the little kids were roped in to sing along with the worship leader ( I think it was Adeline). There is something so lovely about the voice of the children as they praise God... We Are The Reason As little children We would dream of Christmas morn Of all the gifts and toys We knew we'd find But we never realized A baby born one blessed night Gave us the greatest gift of our lives We were the reason That He gave His life We were the reason That He suffered and died To a world that was lost He gave all He could give To show us the reason to live As the years went by We learned more about gifts The giving of ourselves And what that means On a dark and cloudy day A man hung crying in the rain All because of love, all

Do you hear what I hear?

We can hear in so many ways if we look to the original Greek translation of the word each time it is applied in the bible. As I've said before - so much is lost in translation. Akoe - the act of hearing, the sense of hearing, the thing heard, give audience to, give fame to, that which you heard or are hearing being preached, reported or rumored. (Eg. used in Romans 10:17) Akouo - to come and hear, to be reported to, to understand (Eg. used in Mark 7:16, Matthew 13:18) Shama - to hear and be given knowledge to (often with implication of attention, obedience, etc.; causatively, to tell, etc.) (Eg. used in Isaiah 42:18, Psalm 115:6, Prov 23:19, Psalm 143:8) When you know which term for hearing was used, you come to understand what sort of hearing was being described to you or demanded of you in each passage. =) I will usually use bible.cc and its Lexicon to check the original meanings of words in the bible. =) I find it most helpful to read in the context of the actual Scriptures i

Everyone should own a Bible for Kids

Everyone and I mean everyone should own a copy of a Children's bible. NOT the sort with big words and kawaii pictures - but translations that are meant to be easy for kids to understand without losing the meaning of the Scriptures. I bought Kae a Max Lucado ICB bible and reading it to him as a bedtime book has further aided me in understanding some of the more "lor sor" or hard to understand bits of the Scripture. What is interesting is this - The ICB (International Children's Bible) stands alone as the only totally new translation of the original Bible text - from the Greek and Hebrew language - specifically for children. Kae and I enjoy the daily devotionals found within the pages too - written by Max Lucado himself. If you are a fan of Max Lucado, you will love it. If you have never heard of Max Lucado, you will love it too. There is a thing about the way Max Lucado writes that touches the heart. If the Max Lucado ICB feels a tad too $$$, then another alternative

Don't Give Up

Somedays, I feel that Jesus is singing this to me in my heart when things just seem so impossible =) May it bring encouragement to you too. Jesus loves you!! "You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)" Don't give up It's just the weight of the world When your heart's heavy I...I will lift it for you Don't give up Because you want to be heard If silence keeps you I...I will break it for you Everybody wants to be understood Well I can hear you Everybody wants to be loved Don't give up Because you are loved Don't give up It's just the hurt that you hide When you're lost inside I...I will be there to find you Don't give up Because you want to burn bright If darkness blinds you I...I will shine to guide you Everybody wants to be understood Well I can hear you Everybody wants to be loved Don't give up Because you are loved You are loved Don't give up It's just the weight of the world Don't give up Every one needs to be heard You are loved

Thoughts on: Deception, Ignorance, Pride, Unbelief and Repentance

Deception The Devil uses 2 main baits to get us to walk right into his trap - deception & pride. He is afterall known as the father of all lies (Jn 8:44). So he and his minions are particularly adept at lying. " (The devil) lies about who we are, he lies about who God is, he lies about who he is and what he does." - Charles H. Kraft When we accept a lie of the devil, whether big or small, we are transfering our trust in the Heavenly Father to trusting in the father of all lies (and enemy of our souls). The things that hold us trapped in this chasm of deception are lack of knowledge and pride . Lack of Knowledge This is why Hosea 4:6 says - Destruction has overtaken my people because they have no knowledge. The bible is our sword, our weapon. A soldier without a sword is a sitting duck. Same thing, if we do not arm ourselves with the word, we have no weapon with which we can hit away the fiery darts of the devil. Our shield, according to the bible, is the shield of fait
