When English translations fail us

"What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:" (Psalm 8:4-6).

Just wanted to share what I feel is important- that the word "angels" in verse 5 is actually "Elohim" in original Hebrew which is the plural for God. :)

This, I feel, emphasises the need for us to refer to the Hebrew and Greek as we study the Word. :) There is a huge difference in context when "angels" instead of "Elohim" is applied. No? We are above angels in the hierarchy but read wrongly, we'd think otherwise.

  1. Thank you for pointing that out. I read that verse before and felt kind of funny... how can Jesus be lower than the angels? But I pushed the thought away not knowing it was the Holy Spirit. Thank you once again. Praise our Daddy.
